MINUTES OF ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

Chairman’s Welcome
Chair welcomed all to the AGM.
Minutes of the previous meeting
The minutes of the previous meeting were handed out.
Matters Arising
There were no matters arising. The minutes were proposed as correct by Willie Clarke and seconded by Brian Menzies
Chairman’s Annual Statement
Chair Stephen Nardone submitted the following report:
Chairman’s Report 2017 – 2018
I usually start my report by saying we have had a very busy year – and indeed that is true of the last year, but unfortunately due to illness I have not been able to take a great part in it. But this has not had a detrimental effect of the work and events of the Community Council so I can only say well done to everybody.
I managed, organised and was able to attend the Armistice Service and I am happy to say that it was very well attended by local organisations and members of the public. I have been in contact with both local primary schools and the Heritage Group about events to commemorate the Centenary of the end of World War One and although further discussion is needed plans are in place and starting to take shape.
The Citizen of The Year award was a very good evening and there were several presentations to award good citizenship in the Benarty area. We have many people in the community to thank for all the work they do within our community and for our community, too many to mention. But special mentions must go out to David Blane for all the hard work he has put into researching the names for the War memorial. Michael Murray also for starting up the Meedies Running Club and encouraging so many people to take up running so quickly – I believe the membership is now around 200 and I often see wee rows of lights from the head torches of the runners on their training nights. Thomas Ratcliffe for all the work he puts into the Cemetery, keeping it neat and tidy for the whole of Benarty. Our Junior Citizen of the Year Cooper Davidson who was sponsored to have her hair cut off for money to be donated to her ill friend. Our Citizen of the Year Anne Hay known to us all because of the fabulous work done for so many groups over so many years, and who is still active in many groups. These are all positive things and Benarty has much to be proud of as a community and much to offer each other. There are many positive things going on within this community and we need to make every effort to be part of these and to improve the community of Benarty to the best of our ability. We can look forward to a bright future for Benarty by working together toward one.
Finance Annual Report
Treasurer issued a financial report for the year. Treasurer spoke to Beth Flynn to confirm if Jackie McCann was still eligible to do the accounts and this was confirmed. The Finance report was proposed as correct by Willie Clarke and seconded by Brian Menzies.
Election of Officials
The election of officials was delayed, with the Community Council agreeing that everything should stay as they are due to an election being near. The election of a Vice Chair was discussed. Tom Kinnaird was nominated as Vice by Brian Menzies and seconded by Anne Hay, and duly elected.
Constitution and Standing Orders
Secretary mentioned that work had been going on to amend and update the proposed Constitution and Standing Orders and to include any items not in either of the two documents to be placed into a ‘Policies Document’. This was agreed but due to the ongoing boundary dispute all the discussions about the documents were put on hold, for the subgroup to deal with at a later date.
