Here is the letter sent to the Convener of the Cowdenbeath Area Committee in relation to the Bells Project.
BELLS PROJECT
Dear Cllr. Alex Campbell
I am writing to you in relation to the Bells Project, which is a project in the Benarty area to site on the grounds of Lochore Meadows Country Park the bells from two local churches; these bells were saved when the churches were demolished and gifted to the community, and it was agreed to place them within the Benarty area to commemorate the churches. This project has been going on for several years and has been constantly delayed and deferred and never completed, even though there was money ring fenced for the project in the account of Benarty Community Council as far back as 2014/2015.
The most recent attempt to complete this project was when the tender for the play park at Lochore Meadows Country Park was issued, the Bells Project being integrated as a condition within this tender. As you may know the tender did not proceed and yet again the Bells Project was left in limbo.
At the recent meeting of Benarty Community Council it was decided to contact you to find out the status of this project as emails to Fife Council Officers have gone unanswered.
Can you tell us where this project stands in terms of funding and date of completion?
The Community Council also wanted to ask if there is no set date for completion, if the project could be handed to another body to fulfil it and ensure this community heritage is publicly displayed as intended?
I look forward to your soonest response.
Regards
John Purdie
Secretary
